SMART strongly recommends the Accuvert pump runs with the pump door closed during the dispensing process. This is in line with the manufacturer’s guidelines and will give the best results.
When a user sees the Bottle Empty message: Open the pump door and verify the bottle is empty.
If Yes: Click Yes on the message, remove the empty bottle from the pump and replace it with a full bottle. Close the pump door and click the button to pour the remainder of the dose.
If No: Close the pump door. The software will attempt to continue pouring the remaining dose amount.
Replacement doses: When pouring a replacement dose there is a delay between clicking the button and pouring the dose. The software is always re-initializing the pump when pouring a replacement dose and this is the reason for the delay.
If the Door light on the pump is red, the user should verify that the pump door is properly closed. Closing the door correctly should turn the light off. If the light doesn’t turn off on closing the door, the Reset Pump button will disable the door alarm and the light should go off.
If for any reason it is necessary to turn the pump off during the normal course of daily operation the user should click the Reset Pump button prior to pouring the next dose.
If there is a loss of communication with the pump and the pump door is open or not properly closed, the user should click the Reset pump button. Failure to do so may result in further communication problems with the pump.
If the user receives the message - “Accuvert pump door must be closed while dispensing medication. The software has lost communication with the pump. Log off, turn the pump off and on and log back into SMART. You may need to pour a replacement dose for this patient.” – follow the instructions in the message. The software at this point is unable to communicate with the pump. Any attempt to continue dosing could cause the software to stop functioning.
