A patient can legally revoke their consent to share information at any time. SMART allows this to happen by selecting the release and choosing “Revoke.” When a user does this, a new window will appear that allows them to record the reason for the revocation and also records the user who performed the action as well as the date of the revocation:
Users must enter some text in the Revoked Reason box. This is useful for documenting why the patient made the decision to withdraw consent; and prevent unnecessary repeat action. Once a release has been revoked, these details can be seen by using the “View Revocation” button. A release can also be Renewed if it needs to be reinstated but this does not alter that we continue to store the past version was revoked. The renewal will require re-execution of the patient signature.
This feature was released in SMART version 4.5.8.
