SMART Billing - How do I update a patient's coverage record to a new insurance so that the services will be available to bill again?

Purpose:

This article will show how to end a coverage record so that the services will be available to bill a new insurance.

When will SMART unmark the Billing?

If the incorrect insurance was billed, SMART does allow the ability to end the incorrect coverage record and unmark the billing. SMART will unmark the services billed:

1. For the most recent coverage record.

2. For the insurance in the Automated Carrier

   

How do I update the insurance so that the services billed to the automated billing carrier get unmarked?

Go to the patient’s Profile Edit
Enter a thru Date Save Warning There are # dose history, # case history, # UA history, and # Medical visit records that have already been marked as billed since (date - coverage thru date). Would you like to unmark these records so that they are available to bill again? Yes, services will be available to bill the next insurance. No, services will not be available to bill the next insurance.

What happens if I change the insurance instead of adding a thru date to the coverage?

The services will not be unmarked, and any billing will need to be manually invoiced. Also, there will be no coverage record showing the insurance that was billed previously.
